What is Portal Media?

Portal Media is an indie virtual film studio and a collective of storytellers who utilize virtual reality and the VRChat platform to create emotional and entertaining experiences. Our films are designed to evoke various reactions such as laughter, excitement, fear, or sadness, and we strive to push the boundaries of VRChat content creation.

 

What tools do you use to create your films?

We use a variety of software and tools in the production process:

• Asset Creation: Unity, Adobe Substance Painter, and Blender for creating custom VRChat assets.

• Film Editing: Adobe Premiere Pro and other Adobe products for editing and post-production.

• Filming in VRChat: VRCLens, OBS, and other tools to capture video footage inside of VRChat.

How do you make movements so lifelike in VRChat?

Our actors use full-body tracking with devices such as HTC Vive Trackers or SlimeVR IMU trackers. Some of them also incorporate eye tracking, face tracking, and/or biosense tracking with EEG sensors for custom ligament tracking (such as ears). This attention to detail allows us to bring lifelike performances to the virtual world.

VRChat offers a limitless environment that allows us to craft immersive stories and create customized worlds and avatars. The platform’s flexibility, combined with our use of advanced motion capture and lighting technology, makes it ideal for telling innovative and compelling stories.

Do you take commissions for custom projects?

No, Portal Media does not accept commissions for custom projects at this time. We focus solely on our own films and creative vision.

Our stories cover a wide range of genres, from comedy and drama to fantasy and suspense. We aim to produce virtual films that feel like traditional motion pictures but exist within a VR space, emphasizing strong storytelling and emotional impact.
